General principle

A shortcode is a special tag which will trigger a predefined code to display something in the frontend.

The shortcode :

  • Is defined between square brackets : [ ]
  • Is identified with a name
  • Can have zero, one or multiple combined pairs of attributes=”values”

For example :

[list_pages]

Will display a list of pages in a predefined HTML code.

[list_pages id="12,13,14"]

Will display the page 12,13,14 in that order

How to use shortcode?

Fisrt, you’ll need to know the attributes and their possible values to display exactly what you want. See documentation below.

One your are ready, you simply write the shortcode in the text editor of your page/post, where you want it to appear. The wordpress theme will translate your shortcode into code while displaying the page in the frontend.
